Dear all, I have been accepted in a residency program in Wichita, KS. The hospital has committed to sponsor H1b for my training, however I just got their reply saying that they need my SSN in order to process the whole thing. It surprises me a bit because as far as I know I can only get SSN after I have my work authorization with me. Is it true? or is it a different case with physicians? How do I apply for SSN with only my tourist visa. Plus, I'm already in my home country now because my I94 expired last January. Thank you in advance. Regards, Yuno

You show the SSN office a copy of your contract - that's enough for you to get a SSN.

Thank you for you help, bbb. I'm still waiting for my lawyer's reply. Hopefully I won't have to travel all the way back to the states. Yuno

Dear bbb, I just heard from someone that one can get a state license without an SSN as they have a separate form for that. I just wanted to know if this is also the case in your state. Are your H1b resident must get SSN beforehand? Thanks, Yuno
