Hi, I have a question. Should I try to finished with all the exams until the end of August? I have been told that some of the residency programs stop accepting applications at the end of September. Is it true? What if I don't have my results by this time-can I still apply?

it is good if you are done with your exams early, and have the scores in hand , better if you have an ECFMG certificate...than your chances for getting an interview are better..

the earlier you apply better chances of getting more interview. people do apply late in october...but being a foreign graduate you need to get a head start....

i know people who applied in aug sept and got lots of interview..and whose scores were avg.... i applied late in end of sept, early october ...with my step1 and step2 score......and didn't get as many interview as i would've hoped for. i think if i had applied early and had my ecfmg certificate ready i would've gotten more interviews...

the thing is that programs give out interviews more freely early in the interview season....good for people who apply early!!! towards the end they have lots of applications and very few interview slots..therefore they are more picky.....bad for people who apply late ( and are fmg)

Thank you, Shivey!
Could you help me- I have no idea where to look for info about the different programs and there deadlines of accepting dokuments.. I do not even know if I can apply for Ob/Gyn every year, or every other year. So if you can give me any sources for info I will really appreciate it.
Something else... I have finished OB/GYN residensy in my country, but I have not worked in the medical field here ( I was a server for 3.5 years, trying to learn the language and saving money for the exams. Therefore I have no recomendation letters. Is there any chances for me to get interviews in this situation?
By the way- what residancy did you choose?

you can go to "Freida online" i think this is the web address::

http://www.ama-assn.org/vapp/freida/srch/1,1239,,...

or just google freida online. you can find info about the residency and fellowship programs in all specialities. the deadlines are mentioned in there. and it has the web address of the program,so you can learn more about the program through that and get thier contact info as well.

i applied in internal medicine. i think you should be able to apply for obgyn every year, i'm not aware of anything that might keep you from doing so.

i never worked here. i just read for my test and applied for residency. and got a prematch at the place of my choice. i'm not sure about obgyn, but if you have good scores, apply early and extensively, and in places which are FMG friendly you can get a residency in obgyn. although i think some kind of us experience for some competitive residency will help.

you said you finished residency in obgyn, maybe you can get some good letter of recommendation from your professors in your county, that would surely help.

just as a suggestion, if you don't care about what field you go in...and you really want to start a residency next year....than you should apply in IM or Family practice as a back up plan.
