i took the nbme and i got a 440. i really dont know how to feel. is that good? i took form 1 under a timed constraint. the nbme questions seemed really weird compared to q bank.
i heard form two is harder. honestly, i felt a lot of the questions were so short, like one liners. whereas kaplan qbank, ur getting atleast 4-5 lines for a question. i feel kaplan qbank is more challenging in a lot of respects. did anyone else notice that? or is that just me?
does it correlate with the exam? taking my exam soon. or is this all a false assessment?

440-->204 according to the chart provided by this self test. People say this is best assessment to correlate with exam.

so i guess i shouldnt put that much weight into it. i want to pass, and do as well as i can. im gonna stay hungry and continue to work hard.
any other opinions?

yes yes yes. The NBME absolutely correlates with the real test. It will be off a bit, but it really does correlate. Kaplan Q-bank in no way resembles the real test, but it is useful in studying. In general, I think you should aim to beat the mean on the NBME, so >500. But with your score, you should safely pass the USMLE.

retro,
i thought the questions were a bit short in the first form of the NBME. like not that many 2nd order questions. also a lot of the topics tested were extremely high yield....i dont want to say "not hard" cuz my score doesnt reflect that, but definately the type of Q's where first aid could come in real handy. are you telilng me the first step is like that as well?
man, im just gonna keep studying, i hear all these stories about how people got all these weird exams, i just want to pass.....haha

NBME scores correlate with USMLE scores, but the questions are still different. You are right in that NBME questions are easier and more straightforward than the USMLE questions are. They are more high yield stuff and more buzz word focused. The real test is not like the NBME at all. None of the wierd questions you hear about are in the NBME. But, the scores you get do correlate.

u know i think they take the mean from the NBME and the step 1 and do some statistical correlation or something. maybe thats why they dont give u how many u got right and wrong. regardless, im focusing on what NBME said i was weak in, which is also what i thought i was weak in, so atleast that is on par thus far. i hope all goes well. 4 more weeks to go.

i saw ur correlation.u iwll pass the exam.but is taht all u want.cause i had go tlow scores in nbme,still went ahead with my step 1.go tlow score in step 1.
better postpone exam for sometime revise weaker subjects and do it again.

im definately working on what nbme said iw as weak in. and then im gonna do first aid hard. ill then take nbme form 2 and hopefully break 500 cleanly. im good when i cram, so hopefully it will be ok. i honestly am not hell bent on what score i get, although id like to do as well as i can. my exam is in 4 weeks. lets hope i can do this. for now, im gonna study another 6 hours and then proceed to drink like around 3 beers. i feel fatigue setting in, and beer will have to help. call me crazy, i need an escape.
