Hi Laila I haven't decided yet.First of all it all depends on how Long i need to study to pass .For that I believe we have to have a schedule to study efficiently. How about we start with One subject ,finish it in couple of weeks and then disscuss it revising each topic daily ,and in the mean time start another subject. If u come up with any other plan, let ,me know. Wht is the first subject we should study in order to regain some memory back. And from there we will go on. THANKS' ZEB

Good day I am just starting resp system today. Strating with embryo. I started studying two days ago and started with anatomy but I felt very strongly that subject wise approach will not work for me. So I decided to switch to system based approach. I have heard from others who have takee this step 1 and bee nsuccessful that this system based approach is really helpful in getting to know and understand the big picture. So tell me how u feel about it? I will start from scratch i.e. embryo, and then move to histo, gross, physio, patho, and pharma. Would appreciate ur & others'input and comments. So do tell me do u feel comfortable with this? Thanks & Good Luck Laila

Hi Zeb, rd4usmle, Sheher an every one I hope u guys are studying good. Sheher u r most welcome. What r u studying these days? Zeb, I agree with u, the way I see it though is that system based approach will hopefully make my life easier U see I am doing resp. system these days. And after that I will do all the major organ systems InshAllah. And when I do one system I will have an integrated knowledge of anatomy, physiology and pathology and pharma of al lthese systems, so what would be left would be those subjects which we have to do subject wise: micro, biochemistry, genetics, behavioral sciences. But if u think that for u subject wise approach is faster and more effective then go for it. Whether it is this appraoch or that style of learning, the purpose is to try to get a good score in step 1. For me it may be more difficult to do individual subjects like anatomy, physio, pharma, patho from the point of understanding the concepts so my tactic will be to try to make as many links as I can to get an understanding. I might be wrong in this but at the end of the day I will have the satisfaction of knowing that I did what I honestly thought was the better appraoch to ace the exam(not a wishful thinking I hope ) , in my humble opinion. rd4usmle: u R most welcome . I am doing kaplan lecture notes. 2004/2005 edition. as mainstay . After first reading of Kaplan I will, God willing take web prep too and ofcourse I have FA. How r u studying? Doing web prep ? Zeb, rd4usmle, Sheher, Archie, Anna and others what r ur suggestions about game plan for acing step 1. Yeah acing step 1, why be mediocre??I know it may sound like wishful thinking but we all are going to take step 1 so why not aim for the stars? Why do it with half conviction and half heartedly. I know I am an old old graduate and that puts me at a disadvantage but I am willing to put in doulbe the effort compared to fresh graudates. So that should at the very least make me even with the fresh s. No? My mother always told us that don't ever get discouraged , believe in ur self and make that effort and then depend on God to give u the result of the effort. So that is what we are doing. Right? Good luck to u all Laila

Finally, my first post on this forum... And it will be by starting wishing everybody good luck with their studies, and productive days as many as possible ... To ZEB: I agree with Laila completely, what good does it do reading all systems pathology for example if till u reach the pharmacology for each u forgot already where it all started from. I know we r used to going by subjects from school, but if u think that in real life we have diseases to treat/ discover, pathologies to recognize and cure afterwards ... it would make sense reading by systems. Of course this is just an opinion, but what you'd might do is to finish reading by subjects if u feel more comfortable and then, trying to give a second reading by systems (i think it would help u make connections a lot easier, and u will have an advantage too: knowing the materia both ways-- system-wise, plus subject-wise.. lucky u! ) So? how does this sound like? Laila, im so very happy this forum is on a continuous growth, and i congratulate u for that, for making it happen. And i MUST say, ur message above is very inspiring, and Yes! as so many times.. i agree with u, we r not in a favorable position (we r IMGs afterall) .. so we need to work harder than the rest ... We need to achieve a higher level (as high as we can, and even then, to try to rise a step farther) .. And for this, i thank u for the encouraging words of wisdom. Talk soon, and wish everybody all the best, Ana
