Hi,
In case of diseases like fragile X ,there will be a trinucleotide expansion of untranslated region.Since the mutation occurs in untranslated region, how can it actually cause a disease?Untranslated areas do not proceed to become a part of MRNA,rt?Could someone explain please,?Thanx!

untranslated regions are a part of mrna, because they do are transcribed.they are the sites where ribosomes will first bind to start the protien synthesis at 5 ' end and also help in termination at 3' end.so if these sequences are mutated protein synthesis will be affected.
