By which mechanism does cortisol cause hypocalcemia & hypokalemia

  #2

cortisol does not directly causes hypokalemia in physiological range , however at high levels it has significant mineralocorticoid activity to induce salt&water retention and causing hypokalemic alkalosis

similarly at high levels only....it has been hypothesized tht it may reduce the absorption of Ca++ from gut and increase their excretion into the urine  secondary hyperparathyroidism....in addition it also has osteoblast inhibiting activity.
