Hi, I don't think it matters if it is basic or clinical research as long as it is in the specialty you are interested in to apply. Good luck!

I think clinical research is better. They are looking at US clinical experience. Basic science doesn't have to do much with medicine. This is just my opinion from what I read. It also depends on individual program requirements. The one one that I like a lot requires "1 year of experience in US hospitals" which is rather unrealistic for most of IMGs, except for volonteering experience.

Any research is better than non. I don't think it matters much what type of research.

Hii Dev Where are you right now..?? If in US the best thing is the check on the net for the closest research place in your area or wherever you are willing to go....look for the department of your choice...you can also look at current research going on and then check the name of the Prof. and his location in the institute. The next step is what I have experienced is go directly to that prof and ask him for a research oppurtunity. Emailing sometimes may help but usually does not. So the best thing is go up to him and show them that u r damn interested in his/her research. If doesnt work out go for your second option I mean the next prof on yr list. I hope it will work cuz it worked in my case. Let me know if you need some more info. Good luck Sameer
