CN VII supplies muscles derived from 2nd branchial arch (muscles of facial expression, stapedius, stylohyoid and posterior belly of digastric).

CN V supplies muscles derived from 1st branchial arch (muscles for mastication + tensor veli palatini, tensor tympani, mylohyoid and anterior belly of digastric).

You're right , of course the arches respond to cranial nerves 5,7,9, and 10 respectively. Thats one thing about the exam . You dont want to miss something that you know.

My token of appreciation for your eagle eye is a pneumonic for the
Neural crest derivatives(bone or cartilage) of branchial arch #2.
