Go to www.nbme.org you will find self assessment tests for basic science. Altogether 2 tests, 200Q/test, $45 each. You will need to set up an account on the website and then pay by credit card. The test doesn't tell you how many you get wrong, nor do they tell you the correct answer at the end. You will get a score which they also give you a correlation chart, and performance analysis so you know what subject/organ system you are good at or weak at. Good luck.

Hey, thanks a lot wombat! I'm glad you told me not to expect correct answer feedback...etc. One more question: Is there a limit to the number of times each test can be taken? Because if that's the case, I'll register and take them near the end of my prep. Thanks.

My understanding from reading their instruction is that once you have paid the money, your test will be good for 1 month. But you can't go back to previous Qs you did if you access from another point of time. So I guess people will just finish it once they start it. (I took both tests right after I paid for them, so I could be wrong about above.) There are both time-limited mode and self-paced mode, with previous one has one hour limit for 50 Qs, just like in the exam. Since it only takes minutes to set up an account and pay the money, why don't you just do it when you are close to taking it.

Only 2 tests in NBME for step 1. Yeh I took both already and paid $90, in the standard timed form. If you take more than 2, that means you will be repeating taking the same exam you did before, and pay another $45 each time you repeat. People sometimes do repeat doing the exam with paying extra money because they want to test themselves one more time.

The questions on NBME don't change. So I never look at those Qs posted in the forum, it would bias the score. Yeh people repeat the same Qs, if they want to assess themselves for a third time.
