Hello everyone, I'm new to this forum and lookin for some advice concerning Step 2 CK. Allow me to elaborate on the situation... To start, goin for 2006 match! Have most of my cores done...just have to do peds and surgery. Have 5 wks off, then a 6 wk peds rotation, then 3 wks off, then surgery (surgery ends at the beginning of September). I literally asked for the most difficult surgery rotation my school offers since surgery is what I want to do, and they obliged!! Because of the difficulty and hrs of this rotation this coming summer, I have been "aiming" to take Step 2 CK prior to surgery. However, I dont think 8 wks split up due to my pediatrics rotation is enough time. So I could go ahead and take Step 2 CK anyways at this time, but doubt it would be wise to rush it! But now, I am considering filling those 8 wks with electives and just taking some time off AFTER surgery in September '05 to study for and take step 2 CK (and might as well do CS at this time too!). I am concerned because I plan on doing well and if I take time off and say take Step 2 CK and CS by the end of November, will this be too late??? With regards to the programs I will be applying to, I will definitely want them to see my Scores for not only Step 1 (a solid score of 212/86, which I am proud of!), but also for Step 2. Any thoughts on whether to take Step 2 in June or to wait til the Fall? About 10 consecutive wks in the fall to study and take the Step 2 certainly seems better than having 8 wks with a break in the middle, but I just dont want the fact that will be taking Step 2 in November to come back and bite me in the butt with regards to residency. Also, I believe interviews and all are around that October/November time too. I figured there are people on this forum who have yet to take Step 2, and prob plenty who have gone through Step 2 and can speak from experience. I know I have to ultimately decide, but I figured some advice from the experienced can't hurt! Thx in advance.

My other option (which isnt looking so bad!) is to take those 8 wks to study and also drop my peds rotation, pushing that back to sometime in 2006! That would give me 14 wks to study for Step 2 CK, maybe doing a light elective in that time too to keep my clinical skills sharp. By doing this, I would have my step 2 CK AND my surgery rotation done by the time I apply for residency. Does this sound like a wise thing to do? Once again, thx in advance!
