Im planning to take the exam on march 31, 2005. It's hard getting myself to study since Im still waiting on my step 1 results to come out (took it on jan 26, 2005). Im done with Cardio, and Heme and did a small block of UW questions. My dilemna is i have the step 2 kaplan lectures but find them way too consuming. I figure, if I do 2 to 3 reads of Kaplan, finish UW and Q bank, and supplementing with Crush and Secrets this should be enough. Any thoughts on my strategy?

Have you subscribed to UW for 1 or 3 months? ( I'm assuming its like Kaplan).
Also, your strategy would make sound sense if you're an AMG and in the wards now - as you are current. If you're an IMG, I've been told one needs at least 3 months.
And at the end you could take the NBME and see if you're ready anyway, so you'l know?
All the best.

hmmm, Im an american IMG that graduated last year. I screwed up my scheduling due to family pressure so I got stuck with this awful schedule. No choice but to take it in 6 weeks. Called ECFMG, and told me that if I dont take it then it will be considered a NO SHOW, already extended it once.

Have you taken step 2? Any advice? Im not as scared about step 2, it's just a matter of getting it done. Thanks

I think with that kind of positive attitude, you'l get it done. Last year was'nt that far away and I'd consider you very clinical savvy at the moment.
I took my step 1 on Jan 27th and like you am waiting for the results. I asked for and got a lot of advice from this forum and I'm going with it. I've started prep for Step 2 and am halfway thru obs/gyn, but I'm going to need all of 3 to 4 months( have been away a while from the wards), so I'm targeting June. If I need to - I'l go back for step 1 in August.
Honestly speaking its the last 5-6 weeks that really seem to distill everything into my brain;'cos by then I'm under real pressure, so if you're hitting the books really hard already, you're fine.
The only advice I have is to do a whole bunch of random UW q instead of subject wise. I did it subject wise for Step 1 and think that was the wrong approach. The exams a random cover, so one might as well get going that way.
Good Luck!

yeah, I know what you mean, and was thinkin about doing it random but i think thats what im going to do after, Im done with the first round. I need something to solidfy my learning after each topic. Im going to do Kaplan qbank, and that will be all random. Can i tell you though. Im done with Cardio, Heme, Onco and Pulmo in IM. Going to do Pulmo q's mixed with the above topics. Maybe a short block of 30. The explanations rock but very time consuming.I hate this situation because i keep thinking about my step 1 exam. But at times i get encouraged becuase my step 1 exam felt more like a step 2 exam with all the clinical crap they put on there. Can you believe I was asked the difference between abruptio placenta, accreta and previa? it was a little bit of a low blow, but I was told to expect that. I dont wanna be dramatic, but I do feel a bit of helplessness right now with my results hanging.

I do envy you though. You have a lot of time to study and your gonna ace step 2!!!! I shouldnt have listened to my folks but they are physicians that migrated to the US in the 70's, they took the FLEX and things were different for them. Did you know back then you could start res even with step 1. So, my point being they expect ALOT from me. hmmmm im starting to have secong thoughts..... Couldve been a bartender instead.

you should keep in touch so we can help each other through the madness.

btw, what is the major risk factor for breast CA? UW says its age, but crush says previous history

later man

Did you see the size of that severance package?
Ok, I know I'm not and this is my life.
For Breast Cancer - Age is THE major risk factor (other than being a woman) - Kaplan was'nt clear on it but Blueprints have a nice chart listing risk factors as sex(99% in woman); age(85% over age 40); proliferative fibrocystic change(2-5:1); previous brst Ca-1 brst(5:1);nulliparous vs parous(3:1) as the top 5 risk factors.
I'm sitting at my desk studying, so if u have any more q, ask away.

thanks for the clarification. hey btw, have you been checking Oasis? Our scores should be updated soon dont you think? i took it a day before you.

From what I've gathered, we shud check Oasis tonight after midnight. Scores are supposed to get updated on the 3rd wednesday.
All the best to u, I have the feeling I'l be drowning my sorrows somewhere tomorrow... !!

im too scared to check. I think, even though its updated, i might just wait for it to come in the mail. I dont want to ruin my day. Ive got a lot to cover. and negative results may affect my way of thinking. But then again, maybe I should start the mourning process now to get it over and done with so I can study for step 2. What do you think?

...and my score is NOT updated! I feel I've got a weeks reprieve.. you should check - since you took it just one day before me.
