hi a j1 visa is valid for 7 years right? so if i want a gen surgery position for 5 years and after that a fellowship for eg. cardiothoracic, its not possible. any way out? or if gen surg is of 7 years duration with 2 years research then no chance of any fellowship right? please suggest a way out. have got to know following option: h1 and its conversion to j1 during fellowship. anything better??

other options: - get married a US citizen during your H-1 residency, apply for adjustment of status to green card, go to fellowship as a permanent resident - finish H-1 residency, work on H1-B in primary care for 3 years, apply for adjustment of status to green card, wait until you receive your green card, then apply for a fellowship - apply for a green card lottery while in H-1 residency, if you win, you can continue fellowship as a permanent resident
