hi
a j1 visa is valid for 7 years right? so if i want a
gen surgery position for 5 years and after that a
fellowship for eg. cardiothoracic, its not possible.
any way out?

or

if gen surg is of 7 years duration with 2 years
research then no chance of any fellowship right?

please suggest a way out.

have got to know following option:

h1 and its conversion to j1 during fellowship. anything better??

other options:

- get married a US citizen during your H-1 residency, apply for adjustment of status to green card, go to fellowship as a permanent resident

- finish H-1 residency, work on H1-B in primary care for 3 years, apply for adjustment of status to green card, wait until you receive your green card, then apply for a fellowship

- apply for a green card lottery while in H-1 residency, if you win, you can continue fellowship as a permanent resident
