I am an IMG ,a qualified surgeon and working in a oncosurgical setup I request you to guide me about surgery residency in US -I am 6 years post MBBS I want some US experience also---please help about scores reqd,any other factors thanks drbcshah

if you really want to do surgery than you need good scores on the usmle ,some kind of research would help. if you are still in india you can do some serious research get it published...that'd be a plus point. and try to get some us clinical experience. i know a senior of mine who wanted to do surgery..he didn't get a surgery residency the first 2 years he tried,so he did preliminary surgery..now he finally he has a surgery residency on the east coast... and i feel that it is better if anybody finishes the usmle steps before they come to the US. cause it is very hard to support yourself in a new environment and read...good luck

Hi Shivey, If one does 1yr of prelim in surgery then to continue do they need to apply again for residency? can they continue in the same hospital or has to change?
