Elm, I do not know the answer to this one but, if the FEV/FVC of patient 1 is 80%, which is normal, how did gather that the patient has an obstructive disease? FEV/FVC is normal at 80%.

DLCO information:

DLCO is decreased in:
pulmonary vascular occulsive disease
interstitial lung disease
emphysema
pulmonary edema

DLCO is increased in:
hemorhage
LR cardiac shunt
Asthma

DLCO is normal in:
Asthma
chronic bronchitis
neuromuscular disease
chest wall deformities

I just read in Kaplan that interstial lung disease actually have a restrictive PFT and decreased DLCO.

So does patient 2 really have interstial lung disease? I'm really sorry i didn't put this in the option.

To r753_2000,

I am reading this q from Kap note (p275), my understanding of DLCO of pt 1a and 1b is that assume other parameters remain same, only DLCO change at two conditions i.e 90% and 40%, and ask what diseases could be under each of these condition, correct me if I am wrong. Since the answers are not given, we have to figure them out.
