Hi BBB

I'm a brazilian phisicyan, and I already made residency and fellowship here(Internal medicine and Rheumatology). I'm planning to do all over again for family reasons (my fiance is living now in NY - he has visa issues too) and I'm really concerned about what kind of visa to choose.
If I get H1 all the procces for getting a GC will be a little bit easier, but my chances for redoing my Rheumatology fellowship are decreased.
If I get J1 it will be better for my fellowship, but after that I'll have to find a waiver job, and according to sites I've read they only want physicians in primary care (Rheumatology doesn't make part).
So, will I make the fellowship and then work in Internal Medicine? Is it correct? Or, is it possible?
I really appreciate any considerations
Thank you
aplima

I'm sorry, I don't know too much about visa issues. You might be able to get fellowship without repearting IM residency (I think you know this). In theory, you might be able to do primary care without having done a US IM residency (you do have a license and the training). But those positions are hard to get.

The waiver jobs for a J1 visa are just as easy to get as finding an employer to sponsor a green card position.

Good luck
