Hi, I am new to this forum , I just want to boost the confidence for the future exam taker, I am a 4th year medical student from Canada. I decided to take the step 1 last oct , but for personal reason I extended it to jan. Initially , I was thinking to apply for residency in the state but as soon as i found out thtat i ( Malaysian ) was eligible to apply for the canadian residency match , i decided not to apply and so I was taking the step seriously. I only prepared the step during my 2 weeks christmas break. ( I have to also prepare for my interview) I only concentrate on first aid , revised twice , I spent about 8 hours a day on cramping the material. I also did q bank but i only managed to finish 20% of questions with average of 65% score. I also did the free usmleasy question and the 2 nbme form ( 530 and 540 ) respecitvely on the last 2 days before the exam . For the actual exam , I wasn't stress about as I am only aiming for a pass. To be frank , i have tons of question that i have to guess as i have no clue of what they were asking. I finished the exam 2 hours earlier and felt like crap after leaving the place. I thought i definitely failed and guess what , i got my score reported today , i passed with a 222/90 , not stellar but it is way better than i expected. So guys cheer up. By the way , i am a proscratinator , if u want to get superb score , do start u prep early and follow the advice of our peers who did well in the step. All the best to all of you.

Thanks boston34, a great complement instead. I am so stress now as the match results for canadian residency will be out in less than 2 days. Gosh, it just freak me out everytime I tried to imagine what would happened on that day. And to those who are preparing the step -----keep it up to those who just finished the step-----take a break and enjoy to those who got the result--------congrat Silver

Are IMU students allowed to participate in canadian match if they did their twinning there??? Do let us know about your canadian match if/where you've got through. All the best.

Hey Veer-Zaara, It is really to my suprise that you know that I am from IMU. To answer you questions regarding eligibility to participate in canadian match , it is a yes or no answer. So far , it is only Memorial University of Newfoundland ( which I attend to) who allow visa/international student ( canadian school graduate) to participate the match (First iteration). However, u r restricted to apply only to the program offered by the university not across canada. While the rest of medical school in canada , u r only eligible to apply unless u r permant resident or canadian citizen. I hope I answer u question. By the wait , it 's a day left to match , so I will follow up with my match results tomorrow. By the way , r u from IMU too? Cheers Silver

I matched to neuro at Memorial University of Newfoundland. Hey boston34, did u do neuro too, can u shed some light on fellowship training in canada, eg( how hard to get, what fellowhip u can do ....etc) . I am interested in intervention neuro and critical care, i know u can do this kind of fellowhsip in the state , but not sure if they have it here in canada?
