I'm wondering what the significance is regarding the fact that ApoB-100 can bind LDL receptors, but ApoB-48 cannot. The RNA transcript for ApoB-48 is cleaved so it does not have th LDL-binding domain. Since ApoB-48 is only found on chylomicrons, which has Apo E as well, it seems to me that chylomicrons can bind to LDL receptors as well. Is there any special function that LDL (or VLDL or IDL) has because of its ApoB-100, maybe relating to its ability to deliver cholesterol? Thanks all.
