hi all
i was just wondering if anyone could tell me the correct path to superspeciality like cardiology or neurology?
does one do residency in internal medicine and then do fellowship ?
or is their anyother way of doing it.
hope someone clears my doubt.
thanx in advance

I f you want to go into Neurology you should apply for the PGY-1 in transitional or preliminary internal medicine . If the Programs are in Match you apply through ERAS and also register with NRMP .
At the same time you should apply for PGY-2 in Neurology for the year after the internship .
For the neurology residency check out www.sfmatch .com - because most of Neurology programs want you to apply through SanFrancisco Match . After the Internship you will have 3 years of neurology residency . So be prepared to have 2 sets of LORs .
There are couple integrated neurology programs - that means that you do not have to apply separatly for the internship . That is included in 4 year neurology program .

Cardiology traditionally follows a three year IM residency.
