A 25-year-old woman suffering from recurrent major depression becomes very distressed when her supervisor asks her to revise a project she has been working on for weeks. "I don't do anything right. I must be the most incompetent person in the firm. I will lose my job for sure!" she states, sobbing, to her therapist. According to the cognitive model, her depression is a consequence of which of the following problems?
In the cognitive model, which of the following interventions should the therapist begin with this patient?
A. Ask the patient to return to her workplace and take on another project
B. Tell the patient that she is feeling this way because her self-esteem is low
C. Tell the patient that she is blowing the episode out of proportion
D. Ask the patient to talk about her feelings of humiliation and devastation
E. Ask the patient to write down her thoughts so that the two can discuss them

I dont think any patient feeling low will want to talk about things when they are already feeling down, by approaching patient and having them write down ; physician is giving time for patient to think about the problem themself and to realize and by making sure they dont miss any of their concerns. I think there is movie with angelina ; where they use similiar approach. hope this helps. I personally picked the Answer E= no doubt about it.

I don't agree with the exp.I think pts who r feeling low Do talk to their Dr and while talking doctor can ask questions and explore the problem. This is the most imp factor in doc/pt relationship that pt shud be comfotable telling his/her doc how h/she is feeing. What do u think.

In cognitive BT, pt is asked to write down about his thoughts and then the physician discusses 'em with him

instead of focussing on the humiliation and devastation that the pt has went thru, focus is put on pt's thoughts about himself and the surroundings and once the pt -doctor rapport is established pt may talk abt his experiences with the doc.
