Hi BBB I got this doubt regarding my visa. Please clarify.I sincerely appreciate your help. Thanks in advance. Hospital people insist that I apply for the J 1 at the earliest possible,as it takes long to get one.My attorney tells the contrary , to delay it as much as possible, may be when everyone is applying for one after the match results , I also should apply. As an IMG I want a H1 and I am giving my step 3 shortly and confident of passing the exam. Results should be ready by Ist April and Attorney told that should be fine for premium processing. What do you think? Should I apply right now for the J1 Sponsorship and ensure that it is ready wellinadvance or backmyself for the H1 and delay that.People say that once I have applied for sponsorship via Hospital, nothing will be in my hands, and I must take J1. Really really a big dielemma. What do you suggest. Please answer this question for me, thanks a lot... (If you didnot understand the question please say that......I will write it all over again.....) Thanks very many for the help

Check with the hospital - they may not sponsor H1b visas (and they don't have to). If a hospital does let you then THE HOSPITAL MUST PAY FOR THE VISA (except for the premium processing). If you want a subspecialty after your residency, most fellowships don't sponsor an H1B visa. Think about it....... If you are taking a J1 visa, then you can start the processing anytime - if you have a contract, why wait? Good luck!

Hi BBB, Thanks for the prompt reply.I am afraid that I could not make you understand what I actually intended to. Hospital agreed for H1 b.Money is not a problem.I will pay from my pocket as I intend to go for Premium processing. My dielemma is ,If I worry toomuch about getting a visa, and wanted to ensure I get atleast a J1, I should apply now and will get one in time to join the residency. There by I ensure that I join the residency albiet with less-desirable J1. On the otherhand If I were to sit tight on that for a while, write step 3 soon, apply for the J1 just intime(Lastweek of March), and once Step 3 results are ready in April, apply for H1 PREMIUM processing,I will be getting a H1 in 2 weeks time! Still i do have enough time for orientation in June15th. So, it all boils to just wait on J1 for awhlie and hoping to get a pass in step3 and thereby a h1 OR just resign on that and apply for J1 now itself! What do you think? Hope I did not confuse you.. My point is, I want to apply for J1 enough late so that it will be in the process, but not approved before I could apply for H1 PREMIUM. If I apply very early and get an approval, then even if I were to get 99%in step 3 it is futile and I have to join on J1.Right? Infact I took a lot of courage from one of your postings that J1 is equally good and infact is better.......... Do you still think that way? Please answer this question...Thanks
