Hi guys Ive been a silent observer of this forum for some time.Anyway you guys are doing a great job.Just got my Step 2 Ck score and am pretty bummed out.Got a 75 and I had a pretty low score in Step 1 80.I havent applied for the match this year but am thinking about the scramble and also the 2006 match.Guys seriously do u think I have any chance in Internal medicine.I really feel discouraged by my scores seeing everyone here is scoring in the 90's.Im a Canadian born citizen went to my home country to do medicine.I could get great Lors from Canada and I could write a pretty good personal statement but other than that if they screen you by your marks I feel pretty screwed.Anyway guys I really need some sincere advise on what i should do?Is there any possible way for me not to waste another year??Igraduated in 2000....Any advice would be appreciated..Thanks

I would say try to do anything you can do to improve your CV....ie, research, externship, get US LORs, get certified before you apply...ect. Try anything you can think of that could be positive on your CV. Good luck, and congrates on your passing. Just think that there are many still struggling to pass. 8)

As ELM has said, improve on the rest of your application. When I applied for ERAS for peds, I only had my step 1 score (185/76), and a GPA that was under a 3.0, and I got 9 interview requests (out of 55 programs). I'd say I did pretty well considering my circumstances. I think LORs are quite important, as is your personal statement. Obviously, other things that you have done in life, such as research, etc., will enhance things. So do not be disheartened. By the way, if in the end you decide to wait until 2006 match, perhaps you could think about taking your step 3, and get that done and out of the way. Study well for it, do well, and it will look good (and you can be licensed as well). Do externships/observerships here in the US as well. One last thing, there are several programs out there that do not even participate in the match, which means you can apply now for them, and not have to worry about meeting deadlines in the next month or so. Basically it means you can finish your requirements by July even. Consider these as well before putting off match until next year. Good luck.

I only know of one because I rotated there for a couple of rotations. St. Michael's in Newark New Jersey does not participate in match, and takes about 15 first year positions for internal medicine. I believe Jersey City Medical Center (in Jersey City, NJ) is outside of match for pediatrics. That's all I know, sorry.
