Hi all,

I'm new to this forum, but have been checking it over the past few weeks while waiting for my Step 1 score to come through. To give you some background, I'm a med student from outside the US, so I prepared for this exam while doing my clinical rotations. On average, I did about an hour of work a day for the first few months, and then stepped it up in the final month.

So here's what I used... The Kaplan lecture notes were my main source of reading. I think they are wholly satisfactory as long as you have a reasonable grasp of the preclinical subjects from med school. In the week preceding the exam, I read First Aid, which was useful revision. In terms of practice questions, I did the Kaplan Qbank (76% correct in random blocks of 50) and Qbook.

The exam itself was pretty close to Qbank, but, in my opinion, slightly more difficult. There were fewer 'obvious' questions, and some syndromes I'd never heard of before. But on the whole, it was pretty doable.

I hope this is of some help. Best of luck smiling face

Hello medstud00
Congratulation for this wonderful mark..
I’m like you a med student in the 3rd year from outside the US and I’m planning to have my usmle s1 in the 6th year.
So I want to learn from your experience ,what should Iread right now since I’m still studying basics this year and what to do in the next 2 years.
Plz tell about the books to read and if I have to do some MCQs books or cds now.
Congratulation again
