Hii BBB

You are doing a great job out here......May you live long!!!....Just joined this site today. And u r all over it....BBB I wanted a sincere guidance....I had got four interview calls...I am done with all of it. Waiting for the match. Got 90 in step 1 and 83 in step 2. I was offered for a prematch at one prog which I did not find suitbale as it did not have any fellowships. And I intend not to put it on my rank list too...which I am not sure about....whether I should rank it or not. Currently I am doing a research in a reputed university.

I had applied to 50 progs....and a lot of progs didnt even send rejections or any regret msgs. Now as this is the end of the season wud it be of any benefit to contact them RIGHT NOW....as I think most of em must have been already done with their interview selection. And I think its already late to contact them.

So Inshort I have got two questions ??? 1. Is it stilll benefecial to contact the programs...??

2. Shud I rank the fouth prog......or are my chances good enuff for the remaining three progs???

I would really appreciate if you cud reply me ASAP.

Thank you in advance. ANy other advices from other sources are also most welcome....

1. You should call the other programs and ask for the status of your application. It certainly wouldn't hurt and you never know what happens since many are cancelling their interviews.
2. Do not rank a program if you are unwilling to go there. Otherwise you might just get matched to that place. Unless of course you would be willing to spend a year there and try to transfer next year. As far as your chances being good enough, only you can answer that. Your 90/83 and research experience are all you mentioned as far as your credentials.. but even if you scored 99/99 people here still wouldn't be able to tell you if your chances are good enough, since we don't know how your interview went.. if you had poor interviews or have trouble speaking english, then you may not even be ranked.. understand?

the last thing you have to ask yourself: would you rather scramble?

thanks for the suggestions.....and about my interview it went very well esp in the one prog which I would rank it as my top.....but the prob is at the time of interview, the doctor was like U r the best candidate I have so far seen and things like that...she even gave me her personal number.....wich I know she didnt give to the other interviewees.....But when I emailed her for thanx NO REPLY!!!....I really dont get this....And I didnt call her on her direct number becuz I thought it wud be a bit unprofessional.....Wat do u have to say on this....??? And I really appreciate for yr quick reply...Thanks once again.

It certainly does sound like you had a great interview with that top choice of yours..i don't believe that doctor would intentionally mislead you.. as far as not getting a response from your thank you letter, don't expect it..at my top choice i sent 4 letters, one for each of the docs, and one for the program coordinator..i only received a response from the coordinator, and it was the only one important..an offer.. and as far as calling that personal number, go right ahead and do it..the doctor gave your the number after all, you might as well use it..express that you plan on ranking them number 1.. and make sure they know you really mean it. SCRAMBLE is the period during when unmatched applicants attempt to contact programs that are not filled.

Sorry, in the middle of making a rank order list for the program and didn't check in this morning.

Call the programs - what can it hurt - some might be doing late interviews.

Call the number that the program director gave you - maybe she meant to go back later and answer your email and it slipped her mind.

Good luck!!

p.s. Only put a program on the list if you are going to be happy there!!!
