dear all
great forum running here i've read alot of posts and i decided to write one of my own cz i didnt find any similer situation

my country ( jordan) have excellent students and every single one who did the MLEs from my med school got 99's on both exams
( i'm serious) anyway i got my test score today for step 2 and its an 83 off course everyone is shocked ( my friends)
so i decided to look for some support here and to ask around about my chances

the thing that makes my case a lil different is that my primary objective is to live/work in the us as a doctor
i dont really care what residency program or what speciallty although i am applying mainly for IM and FP and maybe anasthesiology

ive been surrounded by americans my whole life my friends and ppl i hang out with so all i want to do is get an h1 visa try to get a green card then work as a general practioner or family practitionar make a decent salary ( lower end of the spectrum) and enjoy my life

if i get 85-90 in step 1 with my already 83 step 2
what are the chances of me getting to where i want?

and are LOR's good if they are from specialists who graduated from the us but currently working at my country? or does it have to be american doctors who aer currently workin in the us?

and i might add 1 month of clinical us experience ( florida mini residency program)

any suggestions
ps: all the ppl i know here give u advice when ur 99 i'm the first one not to get a 99 and noone is saying anything helpful

thanks

is excellent spoken english and good interpersonal skills a major thing in the interviews?
would it be like a deciding factor

like if a program director has 2 doctors for an interview and one has 90's scores but isnt that good at english and the other has 80s but the person is energetic excellent english and really wanting to be part of this program and this community ( after all we are gonna live there)

which do u think would the program director choose?

and i noticed while readin the post that there are some program directors on this forum so any help would be appreciated

thanks

Going to - "going to live there"

As a program coordinator who just spent 6 hours with the committee putting together the first 1/2 of our rank list, we would like the person who will fit into the program best. And sometimes that isn't the person who scored 99/97 - it's the person who has a personality when they talk to you, the person who listed hobbies on their CV (sorry, docs, but reading medical literature isn't a hobby), and can laugh and talk with the coordinator and the residents......

We decided against a couple of extremely bright young men because they didn't show any personality or emotion/excitement during the interview day.

Good luck to all!

In some of the cultures emotions/excitement/feelings are not easy to read. People are not expressive, specially in the beginning. Let me give you an example. The company I worked for in California used to send their sales force to demonstrate their product. After every trip CEO would ask from sales engineer, so how was customer response, were they excited? If the trip was within US, sales enginner would definitely have the answer, but if the sales engineer visited Japan, he/she would say we dont have any clue.
I am just trying to raise the point that in few hours it may not be accurate/fair to judge the person's emotions/excitement/feelings.
