Hi friends ,
I did 1 interview and had couple of them this month ,but unfortunately i failed my CS .
Report says I had higher performance on Integrated pt encounter ( data gathering + pt note) and spoken english proficiency .But i had borderline and below borderline performance in communication and interpersonal skills .Over all i was failed due to communication skills problem .
Can anyone advice me how to improve my communication and interpersonal skills .I want to take Cs as soon as possible and did applied for it again.
I would appreciate if anyone can advice me.

FIRST OF ALL, THANK YOU FOR SHARING YOUR EXPERIENCE, AS IT WILL BE OF HELP TO MANY PEOPLE IN THIS FORUM WHO WILL TAKE THEIR CS..SECONDLY, I'M SURPRISED THAT YOU DID WELL IN ENGLISH PROFICIENCY BUT NOT SO WELL IN THE COMMUNICATION/INTERPERSONAL SKILLS..I THINK THE BEST WAY FOR YOU TO IMPROVE THAT IS TO JUST PRACTICE TALKING TO PEOPLE..AND NOT NECESSARILY PATIENTS..I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY MY INDIAN FRIEND (AND I CERTAINLY DO NOT WANT TO OFFEND ANYONE IN THIS FORUM) THAT INDIAN IMG'S, ALTHOUGH THEY SCORE 99's ON STEPS, HAVE POOR INTERPERSONAL SKILLS BECAUSE IN THEIR CULTURE, DOCTORS TALK DOWN TO PATIENTS..I DO NOT KNOW WHETHER THIS IS TRUE OR FALSE, BUT THIS IS JUST WHAT I'VE HEARD..AND I DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT YOUR ETHNIC BACKGROUND IS.. ANYWAY, JUST SCHEDULE YOUR CS ASAP AND GET LOTS OF PRACTICE IN THE MEANTIME..YOU'LL GET TO YOUR GOAL WITHOUT A DOUBT..

Thanks for your advice , I think you are right and i shall start preparing in that direction .

OK I don't know how to teach this, but as an Indian IMG who has worked in US hospitals for some time now, I can see the problem. If we treat patients like we do in India, you will fail the test. The trick is to treat them like you are working at a 5 star hotel and they are the guest. They deserve the utmost respect and kindness. Remember, that they are the customer. Treat them like you would a friend. Be polite, smile, express empathy ... just be nice!!! Read a good review book and try to take to heart what you have read. Ideally, go work in a US doctor's office to see how they treat their patients.

ONCE AGAIN, RETRO IS OF GREAT HELP... ANOTHER THING I WOULD SUGGEST TO ANYONE TAKING CS IS WHILE WASHING YOUR HANDS, ASK THE PATIENT SOMETHING.. SINCE I TOOK MY CS IN EARLY DECEMBER, EVERYTIME I WASHED MY HANDS I ASKED "SO, ARE YOU READY FOR THE HOLIDAYS? DID YOU FINISH YOUR SHOPPING?" OR SAY SOMETHING ABOUT THE WEATHER.."IT SURE IS COLD OUTSIDE, ISN'T IT?" OR "WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THIS HEAT?" WILL ALWAYS GET A RESPONSE...OR SOMETHING THE PATIENT MENTIONED ABOUT THEIR SOCIAL HISTORY..ANYTHING APPROPRIATE. IF IT'S AN OLDER PATIENT, ASK ABOUT GRANDCHILDREN, THEY LOVE THAT..YOU CANNOT CHANGE YOUR PERSONALITY OVERNIGHT, BUT A LITTLE "ACTING" DEFINITELY WILL NOT HURT..GOOD LUCK.

Hi friends i did applied for Cs as soon as i got my result that i failed .
But till todate no reply/permit in email .
I wonder when will they send me ..want to take it ASAP.

hi friends,
After a gap of mere shock , I started preparing for cs , i have just 3 weeks in hands to do my best in prep .
I had few questions if someone can answer me .
About reassurance....as said don't give false reassurance but we should give reassurance. How ??
About paraphrasing...should we repeat what the pt said/gave info ?
about draping...should we drape right after introduction ?

about washing your hands......, do you wash hands before and after examing the patient.

Hi,
Can anybody tell me about the accent of SPs? I am IMG with not very fluent english. I scheduled in Atlanta. Do not know if it will be better if I change to Philadelphia or Chicago?
