Need information for best books to get for preparation for Step 1 or 2.
Which author and year for sections

mostly people use the following...

National medical series (NMS)
Kaplan notes (u can also take course on line)
First Aids
BRS (borad review series), by the way, BRS pathology is a must to study!!
Pretest series

above are quite enough, in my personal experience,i just stick to one or two, eg. i study lectures and notes from first aids and BRS then i do only q from NMS and Kaplan and Pretest. i'm sure it will make wonders for my usmle scores.

If u have time, u can also answers q from usmleworld.

i'm sure there are many more which people are using...but in my opinion u have to do pretty well for what u r sticking to....intead doing neither here nor theire!! Good luck.

Dear Kateryna ,

nice to hear from somebody from Ukraine.

Here what I used

Lippincott's Illustrated for Biochemistry –
Trevor and Katzung for Pharmacology –
Goljan's for Pathology --- the most important book for Step 1+ web path

BRS for Physiology
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/078..."' target=_blank>
everything else- from Kaplan.+q-bank

BSS questions

NMSquestions

Blackwell's Step 1 Q&A Review

and of course at the end check yourself with NMBE questions- exact result

Hi kateryna,

what books depends on when you graduated

1.
If your knowledge is fresh and you have time for extensive study I would recommend only kaplan notes step 1 + audio lectures (pathology - available in the net...)

then try some tests and if it goes OK pass step 1

2.
If you graduated some years ago, try do some tests to diagnose your knowledge but it is probably necessary to have more books. I would choose high rated (like Lippincott's Illustrated for Biochemistry), books are well desribed here on the forums: http://www.prep4usmle.com/resources/29

Best regards,

Bartek
