A 49-year-old African-American female with shortness of breath is found to have hilar lymphadenopathy on chest x-ray. Biopsy of one of the lymph nodes reveals granulomas, and is highly suggestive of sarcoidosis. Which of the following histological findings must have been present in the biopsy material to support the diagnosis of granulomatous inflammation?

A. Asteroid bodies
B. Caseous necrosis
C. Epithelioid histiocytes
D. Fibroblast proliferation
E. Multinucleated giant cells

multinucleated giant cells or epithelial "CELLS"
Sarcoid is non caseating
Asteroid bodies may be fictious

as the question is asking for the histologic signs of diagnosis for granulomatous diseases so I pick C. Epithelioid histiocytes. if it was asking for sarcoidosis, then I would pick Asteroid bodies as well.

I think it is A.

Sarcoidosis is micro: present as,
--noncaseating granuloma
--Asteroid bodies
--Schaumann bodies(laminated calcification)
multinucleated giant cell & fibroblast proliferation are also present in other types of granulomatous inf:
