how can gestational diabetes cause a reduction in the level of surfactant in a fetus?

well reduced surfactant due to decrease production os steroids in fetus...

and gestational diabetes will deliver excess glucose to fetus :arrow: inc. in fetal insulin secretion......

whtz is tht link b/w these twoi states?

Insulin has anti-surfactant formation effect

Insulin inhibits the accumulation of mRNA for the surfactant-associated proteins A and B (SP-A and SP-B) in human fetal lung. In other words gene expression for SP-A and SP-B is inhibited.
