you've got the kussmaul right. I'm not sure whether CHF can cause cheyne stoke breathing pattern. I only know it happens when central respiratory mechanism don't function properly.

yeah u got tht rite .....tht leads to delayed negative feedback response....
i am guessing CHF ledas to slow perfusion  of brain stem....
any explanation? ___________________ life is guud

well I can see your logic, but as you know cheyne stoke has a cyclical pattern with a period of increased tidal volume followed by apnea. if low perfusion was to have caused this then what would be cause of its cyclical pattern?

look the basis of this defect in cyclical pattern is redued negative feedback effect
reduced flow becoz of CHF will also delay the monitoring of atreial PO2 and the subsequent regulatory maneuver played by brain ...slow update of brain.....
wht do u comment? ___________________ life is guud

Biot's irregular apnea, seen in increase intracranial pressure
How about the two others ?

Cheyne stoke----> cyclical changes in tidal volume. the tidal volume first increases and then decreases to the point of apnea.
Apneustic-----> is seen after head trauma and is characterised by inspiratory breath holding that lasts many seconds, followed by brief exhalations.
Biot's------> is seen in some patients with CNS disease (e.g. menengitis). it consists of periods of normal breathing interrupted suddenly by periods of apnea.
Hysterical-----> may produce hyperventilation, i.e. rapid, intense breathing that causes the PaCO2 to decrease.
Kussmaul-----> occurs in Diabetic coma or ketoacidosis and consists of continuous, rapid, deep breathing.
