What is retrograde chromatolysis?

Changes in the cell body of a neuron in response to axonal injury. The cell changes from a transmitting mode to a growth/regenerating mode, and undergoes certain characteristic changes (swelling of the parikaryon, disinteration of Nissl substance, nuclear eccentricity...)

which means neurons hving no regenrative capacity, their cell bodies will undergo degeneration eg. CNS neurons.
