Hi guys, Just got my step 2 score.I got 258/99 I was very happy with it.Before I share my experiences I want to thank all of you for being so helpful (especially docdoc and usmleasr who always helped me ) and its really nice being with you all.I hardly posted but I read through most of the forum and it was a great help. My scores:Kap test:86% Kap Q book:84% UW:did only a few ques and avg was abt 75 And discussed a lot with friends. Also read CMDT and Kaplan material. The exam correlates with Kaplan questions I felt.UW was a bit too picky in my opinion and in the exam, the questions were very long but pretty straight forward.abt 25 questions were easy ,5 to 10 were moderate and the rest were hard.Diabetes,Hypertention,CVS were tested heavily and Surgery was very difficult for me(May be because Im a IMG).I would be happy to answer any other questions you may have. Bye

Excelent score! Great job! Congrates! How many times did you read your Kaplan books and did you do your qs all in timed and mixed style? Also did you take NBME? Thanks, and good luck for your future endovers!

Thank you dann,Bharatphoenix,ELM,tamriko, usmleasr, tasneembanu, lucky and Noelle and all the best to all of you. 1st aid was excellent for step 1 but not so good for step 2.Crush the boards is a better option. You can go through it once or twice about 10days before your exam. I had read CMDT right from my UG days ,so I guess I covered most of the topics from there. But the best way to use the book is look up the topics in CVS,RS,Endo,GI,CNS,Infectious diseases which have been mentioned in Kaplan and read them up from CMDT.While doing so,just learn the main diagnostic clues, the 1st Ix,best Ix and the way of Mx.In my whole exam there were rare presentations of common diseases but not many uncommon diseases or syndromes. So read the common stuff. And read in the way a question may be asked. Do many questions and do them in mixed timed mode as far as possible.I think thats the best approach.Make note of all the concepts which you feel are new(even if you get the question right) I read Kap books twice and made notes when doing so.Before my exam I just revised my notes.I didnt even use a review book though I had both 1st Aid and CTB.I did them a few weeks b4 my exam and CTB was better.I did only CVS from 1st aid. I didnt do the whole of UW,so Im not in a position to say if its real good. But out of what I did read,I felt Kaplan concepts helped me a bit more.UW is great if you do it all and remember it(All my friends say that but I fell short of time in the end).I did not do NBME.Kap test scores have a sort of correlation too with your exam score. It is avg % on 1st attempt + 15-20 and that is the most likely percentile result and this has worked for me and most of my friends. And the best thing you can do for the exam is have a positive attitude....Aim for the highest and you ll get it too......Its not a very tough exam and with the right attitude any one can ACE it And once again Good Luck to everyone in the forum.

Hi Anil.Congratulations on such a GREAT score.I have aQ,u have written about surgery being tough ,iwould like to know whether it was tough because it was too technical or whether it was tough by virtue of being heavy on clinical management details. And another Q ,What did you read for surgery, besides kaplan, what about bailey considering that you are an indian? I shall be thankful if you could answer these Qs for me

Thank you medgrad and bmbn_2004. Surgery was tough owing to clinical management details I felt. But I guess such difficulty would be confined to people from those countries where Mx protocols are a bit different.I mean during my rotations all the cases were rushed to the hospital and an intern always started fluids as the 1st step.In MLE(and may be US) the protocols are a little different and though I tried to pick them from Kap and Bailey,I found the exam questions a bit confusing. But most people on the forums say Surgery is easy ,so guess I wasnt well prepared for it.If you do want to read Bailey,I suggest reading only trauma:thats heavily tested and besides you'll have time to revise it towards the end. CMDT is Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment. Its sorts of a Medical text book. Its a Good idea to read up the Main Diagnostic clues(Given at the starting of a section abt a disease) and Mx protocols about common diseases.Reading the whole book isnt a good idea in my opinion as one wont have the time to revise. Good Luck guys

Hey Anil Kumar, Thanks for sharing your experiences. I failed Step 2 three times, and finally managed to pass with a 206/84 this time. Advice? - Failed Step2 x3, Reapplying Match http://www.prep4usmle.com/community/topic10426.ht... 4th time's the charm =) http://www.prep4usmle.com/community/topic16939.ht... Since you did so super, I was wondering if you had heard any great advice for Step 3, or had advice for improving my score on the multiple-choice portion? Thanks! etcknight
