Could you tell me how I can apply for an externship or observership? How can I know which hospitals offer those programs? Where are they posted?
I am IMG and actually I am in Argentina.
Thank you

You need to check with the individual programs and see if they offer the externship or observership. There is no centralized office or webpage with this information.

bbb:
Can you tell me where the programs, which I have read in many occasions in this web, are? I mean: where can I get the information about programs ?
Sorry for asking because it may sound stupid but I have no idea.
Thank you

Ceci - there is no easy way to find out information regarding observeration/externship. You will have to check each program that you are interested in to see if they accept persons in an observership. Some programs will, some won't.

Good luck

Go on Freida online - Residency/Fellowship Training Program Search

http://www.ama-assn.org:/vapp/freida/srch/1,2667,...

Choose the location, the specialty, find the program and see the email address to contact the program. Send them an email saying that you are an IMG looking for an observership/externship.
I did the same thing in CA but no luck. If you're on the east coast maybe you'll be luckier.

Does anyone know what are the requirements to get an observership position? I guess that every hospital has its own "set of rules", but... generally, in which step of the way should I be?

I am planning to apply for an observership a few months prior to my Step 2 CS exam.

Will I have time to work (say, in the afternoon) and do my observership?

What visa would I need? A visitor visa would do the trick?

Will I have any responsability, even if it is not related to patient care? Example: administrative work, paperwork, etc.

Thanks.

When I first read the topic, I thought that externship and observership are the same thing. Browsing the site, I learned that there is a huge difference...

I definetely would prefer to go for an externship. I could use the "hands on training" aproach, and I sure need to know more about the US health system.

I am NOT a US citizen. Provided I can manage to get the appropiate visa, am I elegible for an externship only with Step 1 and 2CK? Do I need CSA/Step2CS? Same questions posted above apply for this post.

Thanks.

Unfortunately, I can't help with a lot of the information for externships and observerships because the hospital where I work doesn't offer them.

Good luck!
