Dear BBB, knowing how helpful you are I have one simple question for you: I want to do unpaid research in the US and I know I need a J1 research visa in order to do that. What I don't know is whether I am allowed to convert that visa to a visa that will allow me to work as a resident after I am done with my research. Thanks for your time.

Check the ECFMG web site for more information. I heard rumors that you have to wait a year after a J1 research visa before starting a clinical J1, but I don't know for certain. http://www.ecfmg.org

Thanks for your help. I have heard the same rumour and have made some progress in getting an answer. If anyone is in the same situation, I think I can help
