Dear BBB,

I'm an AMG who is applying for the match in psychiatry this year. I just retook Step 1 with a score report due in early Feb before rank order deadlines. I received an opportunity to visit a residency program for a second look and was told by one of the chief residents that this would help us "filter up higher in the rank order list".

My question:

I'm scheduled to go for a second visit in mid Feb and am wondering how much of an effect this has on the ranking process. They happen to be my first choice program and besides passing Step 1, I'd like to do all I can to show my enthusiasm for their program.

Thanks in advance for your wise advice.

Sincerely,
pinkangel

We have revised our lists because a candidate has given us a second looks. First off, it really shows interest in a program - mostly because you wouldn't take the time to re-visit a program that you weren't interested in, right?

Good luck in the match!!

We let the applicants know that if they want to come back for a look, that all they have to do is call. Then the people that come back - we know that they are interested......
