can anyone tell me reason for splenic vein thrombosis in acute pancreatitis?????????

do u remeber that anatomy picture of the relations of stomach bed ??
and do u remeber the pathology chapter of inflamation
if yes u have the answer

it may be difficult to find the answer there........

so far as i know acute pancreatitis causes proteolytic damage to the blood vessels around it including portal vessels and spllenic and superior mesenterec vessels. it can cause pseudocyst of vessels, inflammation of vessel wall and that way even thrombosis of the portal, smv and splenic veins.

this can be so severe sometimes that it results in gastric varices and even hemetemesis.

in addition acute pancreatitis has also been known to cause perispllenitis and even spleenic infarct and rupture in severe cases.

thanx shirishh..well that explains my query,,but wow,,i guess delamr has better explanation for it,,n for delmar's cruel[ooops kind] information ,i do know relations of stomach bed n i also know chapter abt inflammation.well if u want to tell that inflammation of pancreas causes splenic vein thrombosis then i guess every vessel surroundin inflamed vessel should b thrombosed.
