a 72 yr old man brought to the physician by his daughter becos of painless juadice for 1 month. Wife died 10 yrs ago and she is his only child. Before examining the pt daughter asks to speak privately with the physician and asks that she be given the results of any tests. She specifically requests that he not be given any bad news. Pt is alert.vitals are normal. Exam shows scleral, icterus, jaundice. Mild abd tenderness on palpation. Pt is oriented to person, place and time.ct scan shows pancreatic mass with bile duct obstruction and probable metastatic lesion in the liver.most appropriate next step?

1] abide by daughter’s wishes
2] ask the pt if he wishes to discuss his test results with his daughter present
3]tell the daughter it is a legal requirement to tell the pt any and all the results of medical testing
4] consult with the hospital attorney
5] ask another physician to take over the pt care

I think it is 3. plz correct me…

Pt is oriented to person, place and time :!:

Pt. is fully capable of deciding what's best for him  .

As far as I remember, you cannot disclose any piece of info to anyone who is not involved in the pt's care w/o the pt's approval  .

And I also remember that you cannot hide / withhold any info from the pt  .

Patient counts first and since he is able to make decisions, I would ask him if he wishes that..(asnwer 2). Then, I would go with 3.
