Folate or B12 deficiency. Who cares grin ?

If the patient is an alcoholic, he/she will have eventually both 8) .

Besides, they manifest almost the same clinically  . And most doctors decide to give both B12 and folate today grin .

In step 1/2 you will not be asked questions whose answers are debatable  .

There is folate in beer, but not enough.... I think, I remember this from Dr. Fischer's lectures.

I just did a set of Qs from Usmleworld, there was a q about the same issue.
Main thing: it takes a couple of years to use up B12 stores, it takes about 3 months to use up folate stores. Everything else depends on situation. Alkoholics usualy do not care about healthy diet (in general). As for me, guy should have both B12 and folate defficit. Check levels and Tx. [/u]

BEER has FOLATE => unlikely to have a folate deficiency...
