Folliculitis is most commonly due to Staph aureus (common member of our normal skin microflora). The one to watch out for in the hot tubs, whirlpool baths, etc is our little green friend Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa lives quite well at 42 degrees C. That is why it thrives in hot tubs. Hospital whirlpools are checked for this organism on a periodic basis.
