I went there for a peds interview recently. Older hospital and facilities. No standalone PICU (intensive care patients are integrated to the floors). Some rotations are done at Jamaica Hospital. Hospital was drab, and actually kind of depressing (not a place I would be happy to go to everyday). The couple of residents I did get to meet were nice, as were some of the ancillary staff I came in contact with. Did not get to see the residents interacting really to give an accurate opinion on this. Had 3 attendings interview me, including the dept head. They were nice overall, not confrontational. One of the attendings highlighted my weak performance in pre-clinical years several times during the interview. She was polite, but I didn't really feel relaxed with her. The other interviewer was another attending who was nice. The dept head was polite also, not really confrontational. Overall, not so impressive in my humble opinion. Best thing, of course, is to check it for yourself to get an accurate picture.

That's funny, because I got the same email in error! They sent me a one-line email saying to contact the office to make an appointment to interview, and the next day I got an email saying it was a mistake and that they would review my application later. A couple weeks later I got another email telling me to call and set up and interview, and I did. Man, that's funny that it happened to you, too. Anyhow, thanks for wishes and good luck to you also.

if anybody does not want to get in this hospital, please give the chance to me. after i read through this forum, i am almost desperate now. i graduate in 1995 and worked for 2 years in my home countries as a resident physican from 1995-1997. the time gap makes my chance almost zero according to this forum. and my scores for step 1 and step 2 are 94, 86, far away from 99. what to do? desperate!

I was interviewed at this hospital for IM and I refused pre-match there. Old hosp. ,a lot of geriatric patients, lack of oppottunity for a fellowships/except geriatric care/ and in the madness of NY.No thank you! Res. were nice, huge salary and I think good teamwork.

hi, Veer-Zaara, i spend two years to got my master of science degree major in biochemistry from 1997-1999. since then till now, i am doing bio-research all the way along. got 2 first author paper and 1 combine author paper. so my only clinical experience was 2 years from 95-97 after my graduation. i love this forum, it is a nice forum. but the information, probably the truth from this forum also makes me heartbroken. sounds graduated from 95 and last clinical touch in 97 already make me out of list. plus i am still living out of usa. the only visa i am going to get is either j1 by research or j2 through my husband. but i will still take cs in june and get my ecfmg certificate hopefully and will plan to take step 3 around december.

just heard that flushing hospital does not sponsor any j1. that means they only give residency positions to green card holder or citizen. is it true?

I live in Flushing. I won immigration lottery of 2003 so I have green card. I studied hard to achieve 99/99 in 2004 and waiting for CS exam. MD 1995 and MS(preventive medicine)2003 outside american. If somebody matched to Flushing hospital, please help me ask if it is possible to enter the IM of that hospital with no US clinical experience, no LoR (It is difficult to find observership here) , and graduated as FMG in 1995?

I signed a prematch at Flushing. And I do not have any US clinical experience so don't loose hope.I graduated in 99, so 4 yrs your junior. One thing I learned that clinical experience in US is worth it's weight in gold if u can get it. Unfortunately for me the doors began to open after I had signed my prematch.I know that providence hospital in DC gives externships as they offered me one.And in one of my interviews I learnt that a few hospitals in NY also gave externships (unfortunately for u I do not remember any names). If u have research experience that is also a plus. Anyways ask if u need any more input or give me your e-mail and I'll answer your questions to the best of my knowledge. GL

To Barrish, Thanks a lot for your information. I had sent you a private message of my e-mail address. Hope I can keep contact with you in your busy residency days as I hope I can enter the hospital next year. My families plan to stay in Flushing. I had been a part time student in Taiwan during 2001-2003, obtained my master degree of public health and completed master thesis with my name as first author. I do not know if that experience outside American could be counted as research experience.
