hi gezira,
I also passed the first two steps and Canada would be a very good alternative solution for me but as I heard they donīt accept the USMLE and have their own exams. Maybe someone knows more about it.

You are right. It is easier but as I said you have to pass their examination.

Hey guys! It's true that it may be easier to get a visa to canada but getting into a residency program may not be that easy since most of the state hospitals give so much emphasis only to applicants with immigrant status or to canadian residents. If you only have a tourist visa then you might end up not being considered at all in some areas. You're right though that they have separate exams. In order to participate in their matching (CaRMS), you should either have passed the MCCEE and/or MCCQE part 1 depending on which state you are applying for.

Good luck!

check this site, all the info u need about canadian exams are here... http://www.mcc.ca/ it's really tougher to get into residency training in Canada, i reviewed in Kaplan Toronto and met around 100 IMG doctors (roughly), some are immigrants but most are canadian citizens, all were reviewing for the USMLE coz they can't get into the canadian system, i don't mean to discourage u but a sort of warning, but there are still some who's fortunate enough to be accepted, and Canada needs more doctors coz they have shortage as what they claim...goodluck

I'm from Canada. It's way harder to get a residency there as an FMG. in fact, if you are an FMG applying for landed immigrant status there, you have to sign something that states that you are aware that you may never be able to practice medicine in Canada.

You have to write Canadian exams - pre-exam, then you have to do a final year of medical school (very very tough position to get), then pass the Canadian exams. FMG's do not participate in the regular match, but have a separate system where they can apply for certain residencies, like in family medicine. Just because you got the 4th year clerkship type position doesn't mean you get a residency. There are hurdles every step of the way. In Canada, the # residency positions to Canadian medical graduates is roughly equal - very few extra spots. In past years, there have sometimes been fewer residency positions than med students graduating (this happened in 2004 - government increased med student enrollment years before but did not increase number of residencies).

FMG's are usually told that it is a lot easier to apply in the US.

Hi,
I am an IMG, residing in Toronto for years......
I totally agree with Kc, its very difficult to get residency here in Canada so try USMLE..
