1)What the most common cause of hypocalcemia?

1) Hypoalbuminaemia often causes hypocalcaemia, but I'm not sure of the mechanism
2) Neck surgery b/c interference with parathyroid function. Also sepsis and long-term parenteral nutrition (due to hypomagnesia?)

The mechanism is that 40% of Calcium is bound to negatively charged albumen. Low albumen means low Calcium. {yes, hypomagnesia} :idea:

Oh yeah! Forgot about the fact that most extracellular Ca2+ is protein bound! :oops:
