Hello, fellows! Can smb tell me if EVER give any pain meds to any SP on the exam? Some people say that we can't do that, but smb says that KAPLAN recommends giving pain meds to patients with sickle cell crisis, and even in other cases. Please, tell me what's the right way to do? Thank you!

yes, if a CSA patient complains on pain, before you leave a room you should tell him/her something like ...I will tell my nurse to give you a pain shot

Hey.. well... the advice is .. NEVER give any pain meds RIGHT AWAY  !!!! you can do the hx and pe and then tell the patient that you will give him something ONLY in case of 1) Renal colics 2) Sickle cell crisis (i guess, u will see it on the door that the patient is sickle cell) 3) Pancreatic (or other terminal cancer) patient. all other cases, you just tell the patient. "it is not safe to give you medication right now , cause it may cover up the symptoms.once the results of the tests are back we will sit up and discuss all te options of your treatment". i guess. this gotta help !!!!
