accepting the alternative hypothesis when the nul hypothesis is true. Nul hypothesis - there is NO difference between 2 groups.

Another way of saying it:
Rejecting the null hypothesis when it is true is also called a "false negative error": a false negative conclusion has been drawn about the null hypothesis.The probability that a type I error is being made is in fact the value of p; because this value relates to the criterion of alpha, a type I error is also known as an alph error.
