Hey pvs,I always appreciate ppl who r studying with full time job.I am not working( as in outside the home ) except for maintaining my husbands office accounts,so I have all day(not to menton all day's worth of other rsponsibilities).U r doing good keep it up. Gollum thank for ur encouraging message.I just came out of a lil crisis and found ur message. It is nice to have supporting friends like u.This morning our family went to INS.We left house at 6;30 and when we got our turn, the lady refused to entertain all of us saying that she can only serve one person per appointment. We even had the letter from our lawyer stating that only my husband need to take appointmenand take rest of the family's passports( we all decided to go just incase). She was such a looser she argued for 15 min where it just took her 3 and half min to stamp my husband's pasport,She cud have done our too in less than that(15 min)time.anyway what can u say .Now I'll have to go again. On the way back we went to car wash and after coming home I realized my book bag(IM and Q bookin it)was missing .I found it half an hr ago.I am grateful to God for getting it back.I was thinking is it a sign from God that usmle is not for me.Every single day I am struggling to study along with fullfilling all my duties and responsibilities and now this. What a day.But i am glad I found my books.I realized now my books are even more precious than my purse(with mony and creditcard in it).I thanked God with a political statement,"Oh thank u God for getting me my books again. Now that I have my books back please help me pass with good score.Ameen". [-o< I am so tired and exhausted now that I am going for a nap.So all of u happy studying.Oh yeah ,we have chatting today.I'll try to join if I get up in time. I am sorry for a long useless message.I jus needed to vent out :|

hi hamidi yeah there was a chat, and although i got in late, it was a good discussion mainly on diabetes. hey by the way, usmle is definitely for u and me and all of us who are putting in a lot of effort in this exam. So be positive and we will all make it through doing even better than step 1. its amazing that you have taken up this challenge with your numerous household responsibilities, so keep going as u are an inspiration for the rest of us girls who don't have much other responsibilities than studying and still waste time in the day doing nothing. happy studying for the day everybody!

hi all, just feeling a bit overwhelmed at the amount of things to study. It was nice reading ur 'useless message' hamidi, when u look at ppl who are so busy and still making an effort it sure gives u some motivation!! so thanks. I am planning to take step2 in june, hopefully first week but so far haven't been able to figure out how to go about it, if i do the questions i dont have time to read the text and vice versa, i think i am a hopeless case , i am so disheartened . I wonder when i'll get outof this cycle.!!! sorry guys for unburdening myself like this on u, but i sure wish i had a friend to talk to, i am in canada and it sure is lonely up here!!

Hey Ayeshah_l, sorry for the delayed reply.I went on a field trip with my son's class yesterday so did not get time.It was fun but tiring.I wont go in to "useless " details though. Sounds like a good idea .Wat exactely do u have in mind.I have never studies with someone so I am clueless. I am suppose to finish my IM today but probably won't be able to, but still I a going to finish UW tomorrow( and then along with that finish my few chapters left in IM).This is my first reading.I know I am being too hasty taking this test.Shud atleast do 2 reading but I am getting tired and want to take the test b4 I completely run out of motivation and energy.I hope and pray to Allah that it is not a wrong decision.Anyway let me know how u want to do it. Also i have't decides how I shud do UW.I mean subjectwise or mixed.Any in put on that ? anyone? :? :?:

hi hamidi, I have started with cardiology, at the same time i try to squeeze in a couple of mcq's.. at least one block.... u r finishing up with ur IM, what subject do u intend to start next? i think do UW mix, as it will prepare ur for brain for the real exam as well. But its really up to u, if u want to revise IM, but u should do mix at least a few weeks before the exam.

sure, just ask what u want to know. The pattern is indeed different. What are u going for first step2 or QE1?

i had some kaplan questions, i want to finish them first..sort of warming up before i attempt UW... as i heard they are tougher! As i have just started IM so its going to take some time, how much time should i spend on IM? its really frustrating when u can't get things done as rapidly as u would like!!! initially i had planned on studying for just 2 months but since i started IM i am thinking end of june will be a good time to take the exam!

Ayeshah_l, how much time spent on a subject depends on ur speed and availibility of time .I am a pretty slow readerMy mind is always wandering arround(lots of things related to family and home in my mind or may be I have ADHD  ).So it depends how long u take but IM is the main thing give the biggest chunck of ur time to it.I cud not start my UW today(some computer problem).I am still not done with Qbook .Do u think I shud finish that first and then start uw?What do u say? I still have a feeling I shud get one more month so I can revise kaplan one more time but I am sticking to my May plan for now.May be after doing questios I'll think about it.Happy studying

Hi Thanks for the support.Actually I am preparing from Kaplan lectures notes. I am bit confused.Would the Kaplan notes be enough for QE1.Is it necesary to read toronot notes. My QE1 is in May and step 2 in June. Hows your preparation going on.

hi, i guess u have cleared EE if u r taking QE1. My experience was that i read Kaplan notes initially, esp for EE, because it clears up ur concepts and then i read toronto notes . I think u need to read TN esp for QE1, as there are subtle differences, the labs for e.g. everything is in mmol in CA. besides for the second half of the paper u need a list of DD, and u find it in TN, do the family med chap really well from TN. I really dunno what to tell u, i don't want to make u panic if u haven't read TN, i know its really difficult to read and retain but I read TN more than kaplan for QE1. but then everybody is different..right? another thing i found useful was going thru the past mcq's. I guess its the practice mcqs which make the difference, for QE1 do the canadian mcq's and for steps do kaplan or UW...that will help u get used to the exam style. I hope this helps good luck

yes i have step1 under my belt thats y i wanted to do step2 despite the fact that i am in canada because i had studied the same subs. for EE and QE1. Where are u from? and currently where are u residing? 2003 TN is good, it has nice tables and some nemonics like i said before do family med. really well. Also for canadian boards surgery from kaplan is not enough, so do that from TN as well also from TN community med and ethics. I have some questions if u like i can e-mail them to u, they are more useful for the first half. good luck
