Sorry to hear about your results. But, like I told you before, several of my friends failed either of the Steps and some a couple of times. Yet they are getting interviews as well as pre-match offers. Out of 15-20 people only about 3 actually passed both the steps the first attempt. So this kinda tells you how many people failed and yet are getting interviews. And like I said before theyre all American IMGs. I think if you should be smart about where you apply for residency. Apply to places that have high IMG acceptance rates. Most of my friends who are getting interviews are in the NY area, where I think a good 55-60% of physicians (if not more) are IMGs....and if I remember correctly, NJ has even more. To reiterate once more, scores, as important as they are, do not define an applicant. You can always do things (do research, make contacts, etc) to spiffy up your application. Personally, I believe getting residency has alot to do with being at the right place at the right time... -2bmd

yeah, thanks 2bmd. its encouraging to hear that i still have a shot at residency. but whenever i call hospitals, they only want applicants who scored and passed on first shot. and that is in new jersey.

well i think you can prematch which is when you are accepted to residency without completing all the necessary exams. You can apply with at least passing step 1. you must pass step 2 ck and step 2 csa before you start your residency (typical residency programs start in june or july.) However, if you fail to pass all your exams before that time, you lose your spot.
