hi ! i am a med student studying in india.
i am in my 3rd year now..
i have been reading the posts on this website for sometime now n i found this site really helpful....
i have some queries.. n i guess most of u out there will b able to help me with them..

i wanted to know if it would be a good idea to appear for the step 1 now..
I am curious to know if any students from india or any country other than the US take the step 1 during med school..

i have also heard somewhere that one can appear for the step 2 even before step 1.. is that true ??
then why dont IMGs appear first for the step 2 right after their graduation when their clinical subjets are still fresh ..

anyways.., as of now i plan to appear for the step 1 during my internship...
so.., do i need to start studying anything NOW besides my textbooks..

i am keen on beginning to prepare for usmle right away..
I guess its always nice to start early...

hi, if you think you're ready for step 1 , go ahead & take it. it's never too early to plan something productive for your future. you can read on this forum on how people get started w/ their prep'n.
Good luck..

I only know one guy from my med school who sat his step I during school, but he took off 6 months to do it. Not a bad idea in my opinion.

Many people do sit step II first when they finish their final exams. Doing step I first is a plus because there are step I questions on step II and it keeps your pharmac and other basic science fresh. But to be honest, I don't think it matters.

Hi Hitesh
You can take step1 after finishing second yr. any time.Yes,people take these tests during their med-school in India. You can take step2 prior to step1 ..its an individual choice..you also can take both steps togather..if you feel comfertable! If you are planning to take tests during your internship...its a good idea...& text books are more than enough ( but u will need to frame them in USMLE scenario...checkout usmle.org...for all info. ) Behavioral Science is the new subject for step1..so, u can consider BRS for that...and as Immunology is also not much covered during med-school ( it is superspeciality there! )...so for step1,u will need a good Immunology book!
With Wishes..
