I have read a few postings where people were allowed to reapply after OASIS was updated, but then received passing score in the mail. However, I have also read that this is a rare event. I hope your situation is one of those rare events. Good Luck, -2bmd

I remember reading posts a long time ago, Ive been following this forum for a while....cant remember each one, BUT...I used the search option typed in OASIS TRICK, and pasted below one of the postings I found. There are more, I just cant paste all of them. Im sure its hard to relax, but being anxious about it isnt going to help you much. Just prepare yourself for the worst and hope for the best. Good Luck, -2bmd ------------------------------- Hi All, I am a fourth year psychiatry resident in Canada. I'm looking to come to the US for a fellowship and have started the arduous USMLE process. I recently sat the USMLE part 1 - a really horrible experience. It sucks learning the basic sciences that you know you will never use (as a fourth year resident who was once a hard core internal medicine keener, I can personally attest that I have rarely used anything that appeared on USMLE1). After my horrible feeling leaving the exam, I jumped at trying the "OASIS trick". For the first couple of weeks, it wouldn't allow my to register, saying there was an open application (there was a blank under reported scores). Late last week, I checked again. There was a date reported under sent/reported results. I tried to re-register, and it let me!! I was devastated . Today, I received my scores, and expected to fail. However, I have passed with average results (except for behavioural sciences where I'm off the score sheet ... of course I'm almost a full fledged psychiatrist). Take home message - DO NOT BELIEVE THE OASIS TRICK. I know it has worked for some, but no use getting devastated for nothing! Thankfully, I am now joining the Step 2 Forum! 03/08/04 16:59 indiandoc Posts: 60 -- hey please tell me same thing is happening with me infact 3 people whose score was reported on 21st april were able to fill the form please help 04/28/04 12:36

Ron, Just to make sure we're on the same page, Im asnwering your question to how accurate is OASIS/is it 100%. Not trying to convince you of anything otherwise. Like I said before, I really hope your case is one of the rare instances, but like I said you DO have to prepare yourself for the worst....as the majority of the time oasis is accurate. The only way of knowing for sure is waiting for your scores in the mail. I know its nerve wrecking, but you cant rely on false hope. If I were you, I would take it as it is...I would assume I didnt make it, wait for my scores, and if it confirms it...well I already knew that and was prepared for it....on the flip side...if my scores come back saying I passed well then thats great! I do sincerely hope your case is the latter. Good Luck, -2bmd

I am worried because I only got a 193/79 on STEP 1. What are the chances of getting into an Internal Medicine Program with that score? I am a US citizen but an IMG. Ron

I understand youre worried, and of course its expected. Just to let you know though, I have several friends who failed step 1 and/or step 2 and not just once. They are getting interviews, a couple even have pre-match offers. And theyre all American IMGs. I dont know if you applied for the 2005 match or not, but if you havent you could always research which can only strengthen your application for residency. Get in good with people at the programs youre interested in. Scores, though an important part of the application arent the only thing used to get residency. -2bmd

Do the customer representatives at ECFMG have access to see whether you passed an exam or not? I know they are not suppose to but I called yesterday to see how long it takes to get an ECFMG certification and asked what else I needed to get certified... and she kinda hinted that I passed STEP 2 CK?!?! But now oasis trick really messed me up!!! any ideas?

Ron, Take it easy. I know it's easy to say once the bridge has been crossed, but worrying yourself sick about it and trying to find out what you eventually will does not change the outcome. I guess i'm just trying to say be patient and hang in there.....I KNOW HOW YOU FEEL.
