Hi bb,
You are right i was feeling low when i was writing that message. Its alright now.
I havent got anything from ecfmg. I checked oasis and it says my med credentials are verified (when i first applied to ecfmg, they got them verified). I dont know what to do now, just waiting?
I will apply after i get my certificate, but dont know yet when i intend to take that step.
I am going to apply for externship in psych and family medicine. I want to do residency in Psychiatry not in Paeds. I did my house job in paeds back home, but not here.
I will ask you questions whenever i have any.

how r u doing? sorry for a late reply..was busy. well i dunno y i was thinking tht u wanted to peds...sorry for that..psych is my second choice too..lol...lemme know what r u doing to get externship coz i have tried a lot but no response from anyone...may b u r doing something different which i dunno.
regarding ECFMG certificate i think u r all set to get it this week or next week coz u have everything verified..it will update on ur oasis when they send it.
so hows life going on??..im starting slowly for step 3 studies..hopefully i would b able to take it this year..im planning to go home n see my parents whenever i can get time in next 2-3 months. good luck

Hi BB,
I havent applied for externship yet. I didnt know that it is difficult to get an externship. I think i should start applying now. I am not doing anything new, that you dont know. I am just relaxing!
I checked oasis today and they havent sent my certificate. It says Final diploma verified. It doesnt say anything about Final medical school transcript (which also need to be verified by my med school) So i dont know what to do now. I might email them to ask it.

hope u r doing fine...well lemme know if u get an externship or observership..may b u can try at ur hubby's hospital...well regarding ecfmg certificate ur oasis should say "medical education credentials recieved n verified"..when they had my medical diploma just oasis used to show like final medical school diploma recd. n verifed but under it, it used to say ur education credentials do not meet the criteria for ecfmg..so i sent them my transcript then..hope this helps.
well its so hard to get back to books now..lol i know but i would do it..

I checked this message after i sent you a reply of your pm. I am surprised how can you guess from my message about my mood!, its really amazing. Last time bb got it correct and now you! yes i am in a low mood, i will try to overcome it......but many thanks for your concern! 
Now about your question....not too formal and not too causal. Dress up semiformally, modestly and decently (like a physician who see his pt at his office). You have to wear a doctors white coat over your dress, so coat should be clean and ironed.
I saw some examinees wearing tie.
Is it clear to you now???

well did u call ecfmg abt ur certificate or not?..coz im still not clear abt wat u told me abt not getting ur ecfmg certificate...but i tried to explain to u to best of my knowledge. well my books r here..im studying but at a snail's pace coz i m too tired after working all day.
i might go home next month..that would b fun.

What books are you studying for step 3? I posted a question for books in step 3 forum but got no answer yet.

Hi sar and bugsbunny! It's good to know that you both are now planning on step 3. If it's not much of a hassle, please help me how to give concise counselling for STD or safe sex, alcohol cessation, or domestic violence in the CS?

Hi rhonda,
Do you have usmle world course? If yes then look at their notes for councelling on alcohol cessation, STD, safe sex, and domestic violence. Those are really good and enuf for the exam. I studied and practiced them.
If you do not have those, then let me know i will try to explain you.

hope u r sailing in the boat of best health n spirits. well its nice to know that u would share stuff with me when u feel like it...see it works both ways..may b i can share some stuff with u too...i think u r a very nice person n u should get the best n only best in life..so im hoping ur dream of doing residency in institute of ur choice might come true too.
for ECFMG..its better that u call them coz i dunno how long r they gonna take for replying e mail. my CS result was updated at oasis on 2-3rd march...n exactly one week after that my ecfmg certificate sent date was posted at oasis..n i got ECFMG certificate the very next day after they posted it coz it comes through fed ex as an urgent document.
well i think i told u i ordered strong medicine, crush the boards for step 3, n kaplan Q book..i might order blue prints CCS case guide too...i havet had time to review strong medicine yet so i would tell u not to buy it yet coz its a new book..lemme go over that book n then i would b able to give u my honest opinion abt it..rest im gonna study step 2 KAP notes plus my CMDT once im done reading i will subscribe kaplan online bank as well as UW.
im really looking forward to going back home..coz i miss my family sometimes..but i will keep in touch .
hey!! r u watching cricket match on TV or online?? coz i couldt find any cheap deal tto watch cricket match here..dish network is asking abt 280 $ for whole series ..thts way too much..lemme know how ru able to watch it if u r watching it..i usually subscribe to cricinfo.com radio network but this time i didt do that..i just read scores online....take care..good luck

first of all lemme tell u that dont get too nervous abt this exam..this exam is all abt ur confidence n ur spoken english skills..i would't say that u should take this exam lightly as that would b wrong..this exam costs a lot n failing any exam is a traumatic feeling..keep ur cool..practice cases with anyone with time frame..buy a stop clock..make sure u practice draping pt. right away after ur introduction when u practice so that in real exam these lil things will b on ur finger tips n u wont forget that...remember no one is perfect but u can try ur best to b close to perfection..with this attitude im sure u wont have any trouble..everyone makes mistakes in exam but the thing to remember is to maintain ur cool attitude..dont let SP think that u r nervous .........for STD counselling start by telling SP abt benefits of safe sexual practices..ask him /her if he/she uses any contraception....before asking sexual history use appropiate transition sentence such as " Mr. xyz im gonna ask u some very personal questions..please do not feel embarassed..watever u tell me will b kept confidential".....tell him/her abt benefits of condom use that is..first of all it prevents u from contracting STD's plus it would help u in preventing any unwanted pregnancy too".......
abt alcohol..u have to judge an SP from his daily intake of alcohol if he's alcoholic or not then ask CAGE questions if u think he is alcoholic..then tell him abt ill effects of drinking..like liver diseases..ask him if he needs help in quiting..offer him ur help,,,u can also tell him abt support grps in community..like alcoholic anonymous...same goes for smoking counselling too...ask him if he ever thought abt quiting..u can also tell him/her abt nicotine patch.
for domestic violence..u have to offer ur whole hearted support to victim..make him/her feel safe..she/he should b able to confide in u...then u can also explain abt domestic violence counselling...welfare agencies etc....like SAR told u..u should look at UW notes for CS they r very good....i hope it helps ya..good luck

To sar: my exam will be sometime in July or I might re-schedule it earlier if I get a better date. I'm using only Kaplan & FA. I didn't subscribe to USMLEWorld for financial reasons. If it's not too much, please share with me some helpful notes?
To bugsbunny: well right now I'm not YET nervous but I'm sure to be once the exam date gets nearer! Thanks for the tips you mentioned. I hope I can get to pass this hurdle soon!

Yes it works both way we can share whenever we need to share anything. It happens with everyone, ups and downs are part of life. I am happy that this place is not only for giving help in studies but also to give moral support.
I can feel how one miss his or her family when they are apart. I miss my family too, it is also a reason of being low sometimes!
I havent got my ecfmg certificate yet. Nor any reply from ecfmg. Let see!
I am following matches like you, i just check their scores and result online. Last time i subscribed crickinfo, but not this time. I might go to my friends house to see one or two matches on TV.
Thanks for letting me know about your books. Right now i am gathering info for the material. I hope your prep is going well.

I am doing fine. Yes no signs of ecfmg certificate. Oasis is just showing the last date of my final diploma verification........ thats it.
Till today, ...I was doing all tasks that were pending due to steps. Now i am going to do something to get externship. I will also start going to my husbands office, till i get externship. Yes i get bore sometimes, but i try to keep my self busy.
Yes i might go to my friends house for match. May you get a chance of watching a good match too.
How is your job going on? You must have learned a lot of things, so you are not wasting time, you are doing something valuable plus step 3 prep.
I am also hoping for the things to get better.
I will let you know about the progress.

Hey guys, I am leaving on a vocation tomorrow morning and will be back on 22nd of April. My CS is on 12th of May. So basically i will have about 2 weeks to prepare for it. How should i budget my time to prepare? I know Sar you told me your advice but i didn't buy UW, so i will get it after i come back.....beacause i didn't feel like reading, printing and copying stuff. You know i needed a break. So i didn't get it. I will bring my Kaplan CS book with me just in case if i have chance may be i will read in the airplane or in the train, you know wherever i have time to do so. So when i come back what do i do?
BB how should I do my preparation for CS? Give me your experience about the test and your preparation.
Also BB what kind of work do you do? Is it medical? I do a nonmedical job, and after my CS i plan to quit and find something medical or at least one or two externships. I don't think i will do research, because it seems research job is not as important as externship for IM residency. Well i just assume, but not sure though.
Anyway guys, advice me about how should i budget my tight 2 weeks for CS preparation. Where should i start and what do i do.
Gonna pack and take the garbage out, empty the refriger ...ect... today and leaving on an early morning flight to South America!
