nice to hear from u..well my lil vacation is coming to end now ..i had a whale of time here..yeah u r very true abt that once in residency i can go back again n with more money n more gifts..lol..r u missing ur home too?? have u ever been home since u came to US?..well i guess u can PM me n we can talk..well honestly i have forgottten watever i studied for step 3 so far..so im gonna start fresh when i come back..n its a misconception that taking step 3 would help ur resume unless u need a visa ..im planning to take it by nov-december this year but no guarantees..lol..but we can discuss n study like we did for other exams..hope to hear from u soon..good luck

I am happy to know that step 3 wont help for resume making. I am also happy to know that you are going to take your exam in nov-dec, we could start prep together. I am now used to communicate on this forum for exam prep. We can start as a new post on step 3 forum and any body else could join us.
No i visited my parents twice since i came here. But yes, i am missing my family a lot. I will visit them soon.
Enjoy your time, with no thoughts for step 3, residency etc!

how do we start couselling in a pt. who smokes but has come with some other complaint like abdominal pain?

Hi Dev,
At the end of exam, when you will be going to summarize to the pt, imp history points and PE findings, councel him on smoking, then tell him your D/D and work up plan. I counceled SP at the end of PE, in my last minutes final words to him.

regarding ur query...well if u come across any patient with complaints other than respiratory system but smokes then i would advice u to counsel him there right away n thats wat i did coz one tends to be in hurry in end n forgets stuff like counselling..u can start by asking him if he/she has ever thought of quitting smoking n then telling abt. ill effects of smoking n then telling him that there r support groups in community to help quit smoking as well as there is a nicotine patch..i know my answer is diff. from Sar but thats wat i did...good luck

i ahve my exam on saturday.i have done usmleworld once.practised almost all cases(around 30) on my husband.i have read first aid once.but i am suddenly feeling very scareddo u think my preparation is enough?do i have to do something else,please advise me.URGENT!!!

Hi dev,
You have done enuf, now just practice. Keep practicing till the last day. Dont be scared, be confident. Read all question and answers that usmle world offers (questions asked by SPs).
Do councelling when ever you you think thats the time of addressing this problem. CR is right, he did in his own way, he passed CS. I did in my own way, I passed too. Main thing is to remember councelling, no matter at what time of the encounter. I even didnt answer SPs question at the spot, i told him politely that let me finish the exam, and i will asnwer your question later. Then at the end of PE I answered his questions and concerns.
Dont be confused with all this, just to do according to your reflexes and assess at the spot what you should do at that particular time. JUST BE POLITE, SHOW CARE, and RESPECT, ASK BEFORE DOING ANYTHING, DRAPING ETC. PRACTICE these things so that you dont have to think about these. Just make them your reflexes.

watever Sar told u r golden words ..i think ur preparation is good..all u need to do is practice as Sar told ya..if u can't practice anymore with someone then just stand in front of mirror n practice or record ur encounter on an audio recorder so that u can listen to it after u r done n find ur mistakes..make sure u use appropiate transition sentences..watch physical exam videos again if u want..the exam is all abt ur confidence n spoken english..i hope this helps ..if u have any more questions feel free to ask...good luck

thanks for ur prompt reply.i have another question,i have minor cuts near my nails.not exactly cuts but skin is kind of peeled off.so do u think i should wear gloves??i will wash my hands,is that enough??help me out

Lets answer devs question first. Dev, I had the same question when i was taking my exam. Just a night before exam i had a cut on my hand (a minor cut). I put question on this forum and got many answers from members, that is, its up to me, whether i use gloves or not. But i didnt use gloves.
I recommend you to just wash your hands before PE, and you will be fine, as minor cuts (like yours) dont need gloves. But its up to you. Good luck!

Nice to hear from you. I am at the same spot where i was, when you left. That is havent got my ecfmg certificate yet. My credentials are not yet received by ecfmg.
I tried for externship but havent got it yet.
Thats all for now. I am willing to take step 3, and i am collecting its stuff right now. What can i do for Eras?? just the LOR? I am also trying to get LOR from my Professors back home, whom i worked with.
When will the eras process begin???

how ru guys?i gave my exam yesterday.the centre and proctors were very helpful.but i dont know how i have done the exam, cause in couple of cases i ran out of time.i am really scared whether i will pass or not.

Hi Dev,
Congrats for finishing the exam. I also ran out of time in some cases. If you gave an overall good performance you will pass this exam. Dont think about it now. I am sure the one who got score in 90's in other steps will pass this one too!
