Hi bugsbunny,
How was your interview??
I have a question
When did you submit your applications for residency???
Did you fill NRMP and ERAS applications both??
Did you asks the programs about chances of getting residency this year, as we will not get our result of CS till i guess may???
How did you prepare your presonal statement.

I have started my prep from yesterday. Going slowly.

Good luck to you!

HI bugsbunny,
Thanks for replying. I think you have a correct strategy. My friends and my husband also suggest me to take some interviews, but i cant do it before my CS, as it will waste some days. Now i will think abou it. I might ask you more questions.

I also have to ask you many question regarding phy exam. I did just 2 cases till now. If you see case 18 of uw, cc chest pain. They advised to do just chest auscultation, no pal, perc etc. Can you tell me, do we need to do a complete exam of chest (resp or cardiac) or just the aus for some cases??

I will ask you more questions later.

I agree with you that it seems to me very difficult to do complete physical exams in short period of time.

Good luck for your interviews!

Hi bugsbunny,

Sorry for replying you late. I didnt study on weekend, and I didnt even open my mail. weekends are always busy and without studying.

I will let you know when i need to discuss some cases, (There is a chatting area on this forum for step 1 members, but not for CS, i think there should be one for CS members too). thanks a lot for offering your help! Are you practicing on some friend? I tried to practice on my husband. He portrayed as an SP very well and suggested me to practice daily. You should try on some family member or friend too.
How was your weekend? How much did you study?

Thank you again, and

Good luck!

Hello!

I checked the telephone encounter, and it doesnt say anything about what to write in pt notes. I think we can write d/d and workup. I will search it again and will let you know when i get the answer. Put this question on this site under usmle CS forums/clinical cases. Someone might know that answer.

I think you have a good idea of recording your voice and listen to it. I will do the same.

May be this wednesday or most probably the next wednesday oasis will update our result. Just a guess not sure.

Bugsbunny how is your english fluency, are you an american graduate or an img??? I am an img, and need to pay attention to my fluency and accent too!

Good luck!

Hi,

I do write pamhugsfoss and liqoraaa on paper when i practice, i think we can write in real exam too. It is allowed as they will take that paper after the documentation part and it will not be scored. I heard it on usmle cd, so i think you can write these.

About the telephone encounter, i will let you know as soon as i get the answer.

I try to speak slowly, but in doing that i forget the next question to ask  , i am facing many difficulties. Last night i was thinking to reschedule the date. But now i have decided to prepare till end of jan and then i will decide whether i am ready or not.

What i need to learn is to prioritize the PE and History, which at this stage i dont know. I hope i will learn it with practice.

Thats very good if you dont have english problem, i think you will be fine!

Yes, i think next wednesday will be the result day. I dontknow too, whether i will try oasis trick or not.
Let see!

Have a good day!

Hi bugsbunny,

Thanks for giving me info about telephone encounter. I have got an answer about this too that is we have to do d/d and write physical exam as no one point on work up colunm.

I dont have a step one score like yours, so its better not to tell you! Yours is excellent! You will get a good score in step 2 also.

May be i get a good score too in step 2! its wednesday now, count down starts, as i will check oasis today.

Ok then

Best of luck!

May we get good scores!

I also want to done with all steps as soon as possible.

Hi bugsbunny,

I thought they would update it today...anyways may be one more week, it shouldnt be 2 weeks. Its difficult to wait for the result, plus prep for the next step, CS.
I had similar questions in mind and i have noted them down to ask to someone. I asked them with my husband, (he didnt take CS, so he doesnt know about the correct answer) but he suggested me to explain those conditions in simple words. Like PID, you can say that there is a possibilty that you might have infection in your pelvis (or your lower abdomen), it might be due to STD etc etc.

But these explanations would take time. I will put this question on this forum, and will let you know when i get the answer. Or if you can put it on some forum do let me know.
How is your prep going on?
I might complete first reading in 2 or 3 days. I am not practicing for 3 days! How about yours!I have one question,
In uw, in some cases d/d is not according to the SPs answers. Do we have to put the most probable dx on no 1? and do we have to write most specific test on no 1 for work up not the simplest test, like. It shouldnt be no 1 in everycase.

Hi bugs bunny,
Good to know that you know urdu. This ( what you have written) is kind of very good urdu. In daily life we dont speak like that grin

No i am not a fast reader, but a slow and steady reader!

Now chances for result are for next wednesday.

Read 2bmd's experience for exam. He is passed. I am feeling little bit relaxed now.

Ok bugsbunny,

I will let you know when i get answers of my questions

Keep practicing!

Hello bugsbunny,

I also cant afford to lose any day without studying. But I will try to cover the loss of some study days.

Can you type a pt note, (sample note) and send it to me, here or as pm.
I want to see how do you write. Will you write or type? I want to type.. what do you think? But Key boards are different, arent they??
I praticed typing at my home comp, and when i went to my husbands office and typed there, it took more time, bec my fingers were set at my comp. Thats why i am worried about it? I dont want to write bec my writing is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad, only i can read what i write!
grin

If i dont reply you, think that i didnt get time. Other wise i will try to open this page if i would.

Have a good prep

Hi bugsbunny,

What you have asked me is what i wanted to ask you. As we both havent exprienced a real exam yet, so we dont know these things. I dont know about vitals. I saw on uw that they are written on the pt notes. Lets ask to someone else. I will try it today.
I also have questions regarding Abbreviations. Usmle Cd has given short list of abb, (one page) but uw has given 10 pages of abb. I dont know if we use those uw abb, would that be understandable for those who will check our pt notes?? It would be so easy to type for abd: s/nt/nd bs +ve, rather than to type abd: soft, non distended, non tender bowel sounds +ve! what will you do???
I didnt know that if I choose typing for one case, i have to type all pt notes, sad are you sure about it???
I didnt understand what did you say about the writing  , is bad writing advantageous for me??? grin how??
So do you suggest me to write instead of typing???
My friends have gone today, and i havent read anything yet. I am worried!

Ya, we might get our result this week. Do you know those that took exam on 13th dec have got their result or not???

If you get answers of these ques, reply me.

Have good day!

Hello bugsbunny,

Thanks for replying. Yes I got answers from 2bmd, she also adviced to write GA, and Vitals. Take a look of my questions and her answers, it helped me a lot.
Last night i went on a book shop to see if i can get FA but fortunately i got Kaplans CS book. I bought it and i like it, i think it is better than osce (for me)
I will start practicing pt notes from this book soon.
Go barnes and noble or Book a million and take a look of Kaps CS book. You might find it helpful.

Ok bugsbunny,

Have a good prep!

Hello bugsbunny,

I am not sure about that. Ask 2bmd, she might explain it. I think we can do it as abd exm, ie to raise the gown uowards but that might be uncomfortable to her. We can lower her gown from upwards and cover the rest of the body with drapes? Ask from 2bmd for surity.

Today i saw your message in my inbox. I was not on line. Actually prep4usmle forum is automatically looged on whenever any one connects to internet, so it might be my husband who were online at that time.

for people who took exam on 2nd dec, its too late, there must be some individual problem with her. A friend of mine took exam on 2nd dec and got result 2 weeks ago.

So it means we should expect our result tomorrow.

Good luck bugsbunny, for your scores, for your interveiw and for your CS,

and let me know about the draping techniques. I will let you know if i get the answer.

Bye bye

Sar.

  #21

both of you.... stay steady, have faith....u will both get good results

  #22

Hi bugsbunny,
It seems from your mail that you are anxious and confused. Dont do it! You will be fine and will do great!
For draping, what i concluded is that do whatever requires least exposure. So if you want to do chest exam when pt is lying down. Do it. Lower the gown till half of chest or till axilla. Aus lungs and heart and raise the gown to its original position (ie to cover shoulders) now raise the gown from below, covering the abdomen with drape, and ask pt that you want to feel the pulsation of heart, ask her to lift, and then just check PMI. You are done!

For your question regrding Depression: Thyroid, DTR, pulse, heart and lungs auscultation.
DM: Add carotid bruit, PMI, distal pulses. LE exam is imp, if you have time do it on UE too. I practiced DM on my husband and I did all of it in little time. I think I did LE sens (sharp soft and pain, vibration and position sense), motor strength, reflexes. Aus heart and lungs real quick. Pulses and carotid bruit, these dont take lot of time. If time allows or if SP c/o UE symptom, do UE exam too.

For oasis, I know, they send results on wed, and updated late wednesday or on thursday.

Ok bugsbunny, just relax, and practice. Do whatever you feel correct, for draping. I dont know the correct method, i am just guessing, and i will do the same that i told you. If you find any authentic other method, let me know.

Good luck,

Sar.

  #23

Hi bugsbunny,

You are right for backache, no need to add any thing. Thanks for correcting exam for DM. I thought vib and pos senses both decrease in DM. I will check it out.

Oasis is not updated yet. Its thursday, if it doesnt update today, it will be next thursday! Let see!

Best of luck,

Sar.

  #24

You must check vibration and if you hane time also position sense in Pt with DM . Because these senses might be affected by peripheral neuropathy - large nerve fibers not just posterior spinal cord are also responsible for vibration and position sense . Sometimes Pt can have diminished vibration sense before he has diminished pinprick sensation (small fibers ) or c/o numbness or tingling .

Hello bugsbunny,

Like you, i have been checking oasis for last 2 days. I cant focus on CS because of this checking.

You should not be worried, your step 1 score is so good that i can tell you that you will definitely pass the exam, i cant tell about your ck score though, you know it better than me. I think you should go for an interview. Eras would be updated as soon as result would be out, so tell them it would take just one more week. Best of luck!

Now my confusion is started, i am still not prepared for CS. Tell me, in this last week of exam how many cases are you practicing daily????

Ok bugsbunny,

Good luck to you!

Sar.
